For the iPhoto issue, check and see if you are looking in the "original" file folder, rather than the "modified" folder when searching for your photo to upload. If you modify a photo (crop, etc.), iPhoto keeps two files, original and modified. It stores modified photos in a sideways format in the "original" folder (presumably so you can know whether you've altered a photo or not). If you uploaded this from "Originals", try uploading again from "Modified" and you should get the straight-up-and-down version.
